At Sunday night's Grammy Awards show in L.A., the blue-haired pop star performed a brand new song called Part of Me. Wearing a fierce skin-tight bodysuit and an equally-fierce expression, Perry sang such lyrics as "You chewed me up and spit me out/ Like I was poison in your mouth/ You took my light, you drained me down/ You ripped me off, your love was cheap."
Whoa! For a singer who is known for singing about lighthearted subjects like fireworks and daisy dukes, this angst-filled new song sure is a departure. But hey, the best part about going through things like break-ups is that you get to use all those feelings in your art, right?
There's no question Perry wanted Brand to hear the song, either. According to US Weekly, she actually changed some of the song's lyrics specifically for the Grammy broadcast, a line that previously went, "You can keep the dog from me, I never liked him anyway," was changed last night to, "Keep your diamond ring. In fact, you can keep everything, Except for me."
