Adam Lambert to Join Legendary Rock Band Queen for One 'Very Special' Concert
Adam Lambert had been keeping mum about the rumors that he'll be joining legendary rock band Queen -- until now. The American Idol star just announced that he will be filling in as the band's lead singer for the Sonisphere Music Festival on July 7!

"As many suspected, I can finally confirm: I have been invited by Queen to sing one very special concert!" he Tweeted. "Sorry to be coy about the details the past few weeks, but I made a promise to keep it under wraps as best I could. Gonna be a surreal night!"
Surreal indeed! After Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury's death in 1991, the band pretty much dismantled. Original members Brian May and Roger Taylor have performed together on occasion, but there's never been such a widely-publicized and anticipated reunion as the one happening this July. And though no one will ever truly be able to recreate the magic of Mercury's voice, if anyone has to try, Adam Lambert is probably the most worthy contender I can think of. We heard him sing the Queen classic We Are the Champions back on Idol, but imagine him singing other Queen hits like Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen, We Will Rock You, Fat Bottom Girls, and Somebody to Love? It's gonna be awesome.

Other bands performing at the Sonisphere Festival in England include Kiss and Faith No More, Hitfix reports. As fate would have it, the event will happen at Knebworth Park -- the very same location where Freddie Mercury played his last performance with Queen back in 1986.
Tickets for Sonisphere go on sale Thursday, February 23.
