Hollywire's 2012 Oscar Winner Predictions!

Well, the nominations are officially in for the 84th Annual Academy Awards and we at Hollywire are anxiously waiting the final results.

Since we aren't experts in screenplay writing, editing or cinematography we figured we'd stick to what we know best here at Hollywire -- picking out amazing performances by some of our favorite actors!

So take a look at our Oscar winner predictions, and then share with us who YOU think might be taking home the coveted golden statue.

Best Picture nominees, Hugo, The Artist, The Descendants, Moneyball, Midnight In Paris, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

Best Picture: One of the most difficult categories to predict is the one for Best Picture.  Each of the movies up for this category are equally amazing, bringing their own "thing," but we are going to predict that The Artist will take the Oscar.  The silent film broke the mold on so many different levels and it garnered much respect from so many camps that we can't see a reason why it wouldn't win.

Best Actor Oscar Nominees 2012, Demian Bichir, George Clooney, Jean Dujardin, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt

Demian Bichir, A Better Life

George Clooney, The Descendants

Jean DujardinThe Artist

Gary Oldman, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Brad Pitt, Moneyball

Best Actor:  There are those who say that the Oscar may go to Jean Dujardin in The Artist, and those that say the Oscar deserves to go to the actor who found his most exceptional performance yet. Our guess is that George Clooney will take this one home, but that Dujardin could upset the victory -- not to say that should he win it was unworthy.

Best Actress:  Everyone in this category should be considered a winner.  Rooney Mara's breakout performance in Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has already earned her lots of attention and praise, and while an Oscar would be the icing on the cake, we aren't so sure she is going to take it.  Kudos go out to Glenn Close for dressing as a man for almost a whole movie as the cross-dresssing, gender confused, Albert Nobbs.  And although Meryl Streep has earned more Oscar nominations than she has won, and Michelle Williams' sweet and girly take as Marilyn Monroe, the Oscar will more than likely be handed to Viola Davis for her exceptional performance as Abileen Clark in The Help.

Meryl Streep undoubtedly handed in the best performance of the years, male or female. Who cares about the new kids? Yeah, they were great, but this is Streep's finest performance since "Sophie's Choice" (though "Doubt" was pretty fantastic). Seems to me that she would only lose because of the conservative nature of the movie, which is obviously unfavorable to Hollywood's elite. Davis was brilliant, the rest were good, but Meryl was incredible and deserves her third Oscar. It's about damn time. Long live La Streep!

I hope Meryl Streep wins the oscar. She made the best performance of the year... it was also one of her bests (almost as good as Sophie's Choice).

I feel when it comes to the best actress award this year, Viola Davis should take home the golden boy. Her performance in "The Help" was one of the strongest I have seen in the past decade.

Jean Dujardin's performance was the most multifaceted and brilliant. Never mind George Clooney-he was okay. Meryl Streep all the way
