AGE: 16
HOMETOWN: Marlton, New Jersey
SCHOOL/LOCATION: Glen A. Wilson High School/ Hacienda Heights
GRADE: 11 (in the Fall of 2011)
Ashley Wong said that indie pop music and the hipster subculture has played a big role in her design concepts, giving her the inspiration for Wonder Lust.
What factors played a part in forming your inspiration board?
I went shopping to find the perfect neckline, looked through magazines for different kinds of maxi dresses, and put everything together on my board. I also found make up patterns and different hair-dos for my show.
How does your design represent you “as a designer?”
My dress represents a laid-back girl who likes to dress it up. I feel like my dress is a great cross over of Hollywood glam and hipster chic.
Have you started thinking about building your team yet -- from marketing and modeling to runway production? Any fun ideas to share?
Yeah, I told a couple people around school to try-out to be my model. I plan on bringing a couple of maxi dresses, O’Neill outfits, and sundresses they could try-on when they walk for me. At our school, we have an amphitheater where we have lunch rallies, so I plan on having the try-outs there with a sound set up.
