Wakey!Wakey! SXSW Interview: Collab With Lil' Wayne!?
Hollywire left SXSW 2011 with an even greater love for the Brooklyn based indie-pop band known as Wakey!Wakey! The history of the band's unique sound, emotionally driven lyrics and rumors of a possible Lil' Wayne collaboration were the topic of conversation as charming front-man Michael Grubbs took the time to sit down with Hollywire's own Chelsea Briggs!

What do you get when you mix classical melodies with pop influences and put it in a blender and press puree'? Wakey!Wakey! of course!
There's no doubt that Michael Grubbs has a unique musical sound, which he attributes to a combination of growing up with classical music and later in life, his rebellious side that became fascinated with pop music. He explains, "I was raised on classical music, we didn't really have much pop music in the house when I was a kid. So of course whatever you don't have you are really attracted to. So I really fell in love with pop music and pop song structure."

With it being his second year at SXSW, Grubbs indeed had an eventful year in 2010 -- creating a bigger name for himself in the music industry, putting out an album titled, Almost Everything I Wish I’d Said The Last Time I Saw You…, touring and even making his television presence known! That's right, Wakey!Wakey! took on some major screen time in last season's 'One Tree Hill' -- where his music was featured throughout the season and Grubbs himself played the part of a musically inclined bartender.
Not too shabby!
During the interview we paid homage to his bartending role by asking him which cocktail best describes his personality and why!?
Michael's response, "The old fashion. It's a strong cocktail, it's dangerous. In case you didn't notice my physique." Grubbs joked!

And... what's to come in 2011 for Wakey!Wakey! you ask? Grubbs assured us that there is going to be a lot more touring, new music as well as a couple surprises for fans to look forward to! A Lil' Wayne Collab perhaps!? We can only keep our fingers crossed, right!?
