Sundance Review: 'Homework' With Emma Roberts & Freddie Highmore!
As one of the most buzzed about premiere feature films at this years Sundance 2011, Emma Roberts and Freddie Highmore star in the coming of age romantic comedy that is Homework.
With a stellar cast, a seemingly cute story line -- all and all the movie sadly seemed to fall a bit flat when it came time for delivery. With Freddie Highmore settling into his character quite well, Emma Roberts didn't seem to do much of anything. Which of course makes us sad, since we have always had high hopes for the little Roberts starlet.

It was a typical storyline of opposites attract and while there are a couple dramatic bumps in the road, the movie leaves little room for witty dialogue, imaginative scenarios, and lacked serious chemistry between the two star-crossed lovers.

The summary goes like this...smart teenage loner, George (Freddie Highmore) has made it to his senior year without ever completing a single assignment. The high school drama tells the tale of a love story which develops as Sally (Emma Roberts) who plays the popular school beauty befriends George after he sticks up for her by taking the 'smoking on the high school roof' blame. The two end up connecting over troubled parental relationships and maintain a close friendship which finds itself in an upheaval of confused adolescent feelings and emotions. The lack of 'homework' assignments turned in by George lead to his education and future dangling by a thread.
George soon learns that life and love have a way of trampling dreams as rites of passage all the while mounds of homework threaten to do him in on the eve of his graduation. Michael Angarano, Elizabeth Reaser, Rita Wilson, Sam Robards and Blair Underwood also star in the film.

Directed by first timer writer-director Gavin Wiesen, the movie definitely does give viewers a break from the heavy dramatic and emotionally draining view of the world that Indie films usually encompass. The soundtrack of the movie is very catchy and includes songs from american indie pop bands, The Shins, Pavement & French Kiss. Well played Wiesen!
Other then that, the characters are somewhat relatable due to the fact most of us have gone through the awkward high school years to where we seek the meaning of our lives after high school, overcome obstacles and find out what true love and heartbreak really is.

Although slightly disappointed with this flick to which there were high hopes for, the movie won't remain stagnant after Sundance film festivities -- due to the fact it was recently purchased by Searchhlight for 3-million! In return, the film will have an easy time marketing and selling to the high school and teen audiences. The cast will also add to the the buzz and hype that the movie will create once it hits theaters.
